Leas 2004 Wayne D. Leas, age 80, of Worthington, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. He was born May 1, 1923 in Lawton, IA to Roy and Minnie (Goldsmith) Leas. He attended school in Slayton. Wayne married Doris Hawkins on February 1, 1944 in Bremerton, WA. After their marriage the couple lived in the Slayton, Fulda and Worthington areas. Wayne worked for the Minnesota Highway Department. He later worked at TORO in Windom. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, auto racing, trips to Florida and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Wayne is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Prins, Worthington; son and daughter-in-law, David and Deborah Leas, Pensacola, FL; six grandchildren, Jerrit (Kerry) Prins, Ronald Prins, Sherrie (John) Porth, Jessica Leas, Jayson (Vida) Leas and Joshua Leas; eight great grandchildren, Ricky, Whitney, Eric, Tracy, Devon, Jordan, Kara and Amanda; a brother, John (Edith) Leas, Mankato and a sister, Dorothy Suedbeck, Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris, on February 17, 1999; daughter Diane Prins in 1967; son-in-law, Marvin Prins in 1967; two brothers, Walter and Clarence Leas; and a sister, Betty Gengler. The funeral was held on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, MN. Officiating was Rev. Gordon Orde. Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Rushmore. Memorials preferred to the Hospice Cottage, Inc.
