FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: May 2005 ========================================================================= Henrietta (Bandstra) Lolkus was born on October 6, 1910, to John and Minnie (Hulleman) Bandstra on a farm in Norway Township, Wright County, Iowa. She was baptized and made her profession of faith in the Christian Reformed Church. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm in Wright County, Minnesota, and then on to the Chandler, Minnesota area. On December 16, 1931, Henrietta married Jon Lolkus in Chandler and they made their home on a farm south of town until 1933, when they bought the hardware store in Chandler. hey also operated a plumbing and heating business as part of the hardware store. In 1949, they went into the petroleum business and excavation business until in 1955, when the hardware store burned down, they again operated a plumbing and heating business as well. They retired in 1963, when their son Casey, took over the business. For many years they enjoyed retirement and went fishing in the local area and also in the Alexandria area each week from Monday through Thursday evenings, returning in time for Henrietta's weekly hair appointments on Friday. In 1933, after the tornado, they quit going north and stayed in Chandler to help their grandson Ralo clean up and get started in the plumbing and heating business. Henrietta was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler and enjoyed fishing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. After her husband's death in August of 1994, she stayed in her own home until January of 1997, when she stayed at the Ashton Care Center in Pipestone, Minnesota for a few months. She returned home until June of 1998, and then moved to Pipestone residing in the Good Samaritan Village and Ridgeview Congregate housing before becoming a permanent resident in the Good Samaritan Village in September of 2001. On Sunday, March 20, 2005, Henrietta died at the Pipestone Medical Center in Pipestone at the age of 94. Henrietta is survived by one daughter Kathryne and her husband Dick Struiksma, Norwalk, CA; one son Cornelius, "Casey" and his wife Cecelia, Pipestone, MN; eight grandchildren: Jerry, Daryl, Kevin and Kelvin Struiksma; Ralo, Rory and Ryan Lolkus and Robyn Bright; 16 great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jon; one sister Gertrude; two brothers: Rick and Paul and one adopted sister Betty. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 25, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church of Chandler, Chandler, MN with Pastor Gary Mulder officiating. Organist was Pat Holm. Soloist was Leann Tinklenberg. Casket-bearers were Jerry Struiksma, Daryl Struiksma, Kevin Struiksma, Kelvin Struiksma, Ralo Lolkus, Rory Lolkus, Ryan Lolkus and Robyn Bright.
