Donald LOOSBROCK 2004 The Rev. Donald L. Loosbrock was born and May 15, 1926, in St. Kilian, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Clara (Fritz) Loosbrock. His maternal grandfather Charles Fritz, was the first settler in 1876 registered in Wilmont Township of Nobles County. He attended St. Kilian parochial elementary school. He graduated from high school at Crosier Seminary in Onamia. He took his courses in Philosophy at the St. Paul Seminary College of St. Thomas in St. Paul where he earned his degree and completed his studies in Theology. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Winona on May 24, 1951, in St. James Church, St. James by Bishop Edward Fitzgerald and celebrated his first Solemn Mass in in St. Kilian's Catholic Church on June 3, 1951. His first assignment was assistant pastor of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Owatonna in 1951. From 1952 to 1953, he served as assistant pastor at St. John, Johnsburg; St. Gabriel, Fulda and administrator pro tem at St. Rose of Lima, Avoca. In 1953 he served as assistant pastor of St. Mary's in Worthington on which coincided with the opening of the new school where he was on the staff as a teacher of religion. In Rochester, he served as assistant pastor at St. Francis of Assisi, as a teacher at Lourdes High School and St. Francis School and as chaplain at Rochester State Hospital. He was named administrator of St. Ignatius in Spring Valley in 1957 and temporary administrator of the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Father Loosbrock's first pastorate came in 1958 when Bishop Fitzgerald appointed him pastor of the Church of St. Lawrence O'Toole in Fountain and St. Kilian in Wykoff. He also served as pastor of St. Mary's, Dundee in 1963; St. John the Baptist in Minnesota Lake in 1970; St. John the Baptist, Dodge Center and Holy Family, Kasson in 1971; St. Rose of Lima, Lewiston in 1974; St. Francis, Windom and St. Augustine, Jeffers in 1975 and administrator of sacred Heart, Brewster in 1979. In 1981 he served as pastor of St. Gabriel, Fulda; Christ the King Byron in 1984 and also a Holy Family, Kasson in 1988. Father Loosbrock's final years of pastoral service were at Holy Trinity, Rollingstone and Immaculate conception, Oak Ridge. He retired from active ministry in 1994 and move to the Sand Prairie area of rural Wabasha where he substituted in nearby parishes, which regularly requested his services. Rev. Loosbrock died peacefully at the home of his nephew in Richfield, Minnesota on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the age 77. Father Loosbrock is survived by his twin sister Donna (Mrs. Matt) Metz, Wabasha, Minnesota; another sister Mildred (Mrs. J.P.) Hansen, Currie, Minnesota; sisters-in-law Emaline Mahon, Fulda, Minnesota; Rosemary Carlson, Slayton, Minnesota and Marge Loosbrock, St. Kilian, Minnesota; nieces and nephews. Five brothers preceded him in death. Bishop Bernard J. Harrington presided at the funeral mass for Father Loosbrock at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, on Monday, April 19, 2004, at 10:30 a.m with Rev. Donald Lovas and the priests of the Diocese concelebrating. A second funeral mass was offered on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at St. killing and Catholic Church in St. Kilian with Bishop Paul Dudley, retired Bishop of Sioux Falls, presiding. Rev. Michael Hoeppner, Rev. Gerald Kosse and the priests of the Diocese of the Winona concelebrated. Interment will be in St. Kilian's Cemetery. Casket bearers were David and Paul Metz, Don and Doug Hansen, Steve and Rick Loosbrock, Chuck Loosbrock and Rodney Loosbrock. The Abbott funeral home of an in charge arrangements.
