Troy Lorenz was born on June 12, 1972 at Slayton, Minnesota to Gary and 

Beverly Freeburg Lorenz. The family lived in Lakefield and Iona before 

moving to Slayton in 1976. He grew up in Slayton, attended Slayton 

Elementary School and graduated from Slayton High School in 1990. Troy 

had muscular atrophy and has always lived at home. Troy passed away at 

the Murray County Memorial Hospital on August 10, 2005, at the age of 33. 

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Troy had a natural ability to 

draw freehand. Troy's favorite pastimes were reading the Bible, and playing 

chess on the computer with people from all over the world. He was a master 

chess player.  He enjoyed sports on TV, collecting DVD's and playing in 

fantasy sports league with his brothers and friends.  His terrific sense 

of humor will be missed by his many friends and especially his family. 



Survivors include his parents Gary and Beverly Lorenz, Slayton; two 

brothers and a sister: Todd Lorenz, Marshall, MN; Amy and her husband 

Scott Boleen, Winona, MN; and Travis Lorenz, Marshall, MN; and maternal 

grandfather Harry Freeburg of Slayton.  He was preceded in death by his 

maternal grandmother Ethel Freeburg and paternal grandparents: Howard and 

Gladys Lorenz; aunts: Helen and Cora Lorenz and cousins: Kevin Kepler and 

Jennifer Lorenz.   



Funeral services Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, 

August 13, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Loney officiating.  

The organist was Kathy Schwartz.  The soloist was Cheri Paulsen.

The pallbearers were Dan Braun, Brent Braun, Chad Lorenz, Darin Kepler, 

David Freeburg and Mike Lorenz. Honorary pallbearers were all of his 

cousins: Shannon, Andy, Howard, Kenny and Tony Lorenz, Jesse, Paul, Matt 

and Mark Freeburg, Adam and Nathan Gerber, and Troy and Paul Herding. 

Interment is in Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
