McCormick was born on October 1, 1922, at Calmar, Iowa to Otto and Victoria Hlubek Meaden. She lived in Lake Wilson and Avoca, Minnesota during her childhood, and graduated from Slayton High School in 1940. She attended design school in Chicago and worked in Tennessee and Minneapolis. On May 31, 1949, she and Leslie J. McCormick were married at St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they lived in Slayton and raised their six children. In 1954, they bought the appliance business and then owned and operated McCormick's Appliance until they retired in 1990. Les passed away on August 2, 2000. Fran moved to the Sunrise Terrace Apartments in 2003. She passed away at the Murray County Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2005 at the age of 83 years. She was a member of St. Ann's Church and WCCW. Fran enjoyed sewing and when she was younger she made most of her own clothes. Crafts, painting, quilting, square dancing, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were some of her favorite pastimes. Survivors include six children and their spouses: Vickie and Bernie Wenner, Sleepy Eye, MN; Jerry McCormick, Iowa Falls, IA; Dan and Paula McCormick, Pierre, SD, Dale and Vivian McCormick, Salinas, CA; Mary and Terry Peterson, Rosemount, MN; and Craig and Shannon McCormick, Lakeville, MN; 15 grandchildren: Shawn and his wife, Sara, Ben, Jesse and Maria Wenner; Christi, Kim and Keeley McCormick; Ashley and Mia McCormick; Stephanie, Rubio, Zachary and Brittany Peterson; and Ryan, Lauren and Mason McCormick; three great-grandchildren: Kole, Ayana and Julian; four brothers and three sisters and their spouses: Marg and Don Parrott, Boise, Idaho; Jack and Eunice Meaden, Richfield, MN; Jim and Joan Meaden, Slayton, MN; Doris and Al McCormick, Plainfield, IN; Marion Madu, Sunnyvale, CA; Father Paul Meaden, Pecos, NM; and Don and Sheila Meaden, Burnsville, MN. She Was preceded in death by her husband Les. Funeral Services were held at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. The organist and song leader was Sarah Jirak. The trumpet player was Don Jirak. The pallbearers were Shawn Wenner, Jesse Wenner, Zach Peterson, Tim Meaden, Jeff Meaden and Mike Meaden.
