McHarg Summoned on Wednesday - Had Lived in County All But 6 Weeks of His 73 Years - The Fulda community was saddened on last Wednesday to hear of the death of Archie McHarg. Mr. McHarg was one of the earliest of Murray countys pioneer children, and as a farmer, public servant, and Fulda resident, has been known by a large number of Murray county people. He had been in failing health for some time, and was taken seriously ill on Tuesday. That evening he was taken to the Municipal Hospital at Worthington where he died at 1:30 oclock on Wednesday morning, December 24th. Burial services were held at the home at 2:00 o'clock Friday, and at the Presbyterian church at 2:30, with the Rev. Jack Hart in charge. Mrs. Arthur Buschena at the organ, and a quartet composed of Mrs. Carol Hillesley, Mrs. Perry Frey, H.C. Hickman and George Highum, provided the music. The pall bearers were Jodie Anderson, Martin Fries, John Hyslop, B.W. Lloyd, J.T. Schueller and Henry Wisdorf. Joseph Archibald McHarg, oldest of the children of John and Anna Hardy McHarg, was born in Minneapolis on March 4, 1878. When he was six weeks old he came with his parents to a homestead in Murray county four miles east of Fulda. He remained on the farm with his parents until his marriage to Catherine Behr on December 25, 1907, when they moved to an adjoining farm they had purchased. He and Mrs. McHarg lived there until his retirement in 1934. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McHarg, Mrs. Gordon Hendrickson (Mabel) of Aberdeen, S.D.; Robert, living on the home farm; Mrs. Evan Trimbo (Esther) of Kasota, and Mrs. Ervin Haberman (Wilma) of rural Fulda. These with Mrs. McHarg, two sisters, Mrs. Robina Guthier of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Ray Viers of rural Fulda, and nine grandchildren, John Gordon Hendrickson, Marian and Roger McHarg, George and Pat Trimbo, and Patricia, Gary, Gene, and Donald Haberman survive him. His parents and one sister, Mrs. Curtis Barnard, preceded him in death, his father in 1920, his mother in 1927, and his sister in 1932. Mr. McHarg was a kind, sympathetic husband and father, and a neighbor to whom many went for counsel with church, community and civic affairs. He was Clerk of Belfast township for nearly 20 years; he helped to organize and was Secretary of the Farmers Co-Op. Commission Co. in Fulda, and for a number of years was a Trustee of the Fulda Presbyterian Church from 1928 to 1948 he was Commissioner from the Fifth District of Murray county. Our community regrets the death of Mr. McHarg but we have the memory of a man who helped make it a better one in which to live. The sympathy of all goes to Mrs. McHarg and the other members of the family."
