Esther Louise Neilson, the daughter of Jacob and Marie Von Holdt Ewy, was 
born on January 22, 1913 in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, 
Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school 
District 96 and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1932. After her 
schooling she worked at various jobs in the Slayton area. Esther was 
united in marriage to Carroll Neilson on September 6, 1937 at the American 
Lutheran Church in Avoca. After their marriage they farmed in Lime Lake 
Twp. for many years and raised their three children. After there retirement 
in September of 1971, they moved to Fulda, MN and spent many happy years 
there. Carroll died in February of 1986. Esther continued living at home 
until she entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in January of 2004. Esther 
passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the Murray County Memorial 
Hospital in Slayton, MN at the age of 92. She was a lifetime member of 
Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca and was very active in all their 
organizations and taught Sunday school for many years. Esther also 
belonged to the Good Will Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Farm Bureau and the 
Fulda and Avoca Senior Citizens. She also belonged to the American Legion 
Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Esther enjoyed playing cards, fishing 
and cooking. 

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Marwood and 
Ginger Neilson of St. Peter, MN, Sharon and Richard Jones of Rochester, 
MN and Myron and Shirley Neilson of Buffalo, MN; eight grandsons and 
their spouses, Robert and Mary Jones, Randy and Sue Jones, Daniel Jones, 
Darin Neilson and his fiancée, Janet, Derek Neilson, Damon and Molly 
Neilson, Christopher Neilson and Nicholas Neilson; three great-
grandchildren, Hayley Neilson, Lukas Jones and Grace Jones; two brothers, 
Clarence Ewy of Fulda, MN and Elwood Ewy and his wife, Beverly of 
Watertown, SD and two sisters, Edna Ewy of Avoca, MN and Vera Langfeldt 
and her husband, Eldo of Fulda, MN. She is preceded in death by her 
parents, husband and an infant brother. 

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church Avoca, MN at 
2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 with the Rev. Gloria Anderson 
officiating. The organist is Sherri Isder. The pallbearers are her 
grandsons. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
