FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: January 2006 ========================================================================= Dr. Dean David Nywall was born on January 29, 1914 in Skandia, Kansas to David Nywall and Anna Nywall. He attended elementary and high school in Formosa, Kansas. He graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, and earned a master's degree in zoology from the University of Nebraska. He taught high school biology and was principal of the Neligh, Nebraska high school from 1937 to 1940, and at Kramer High School until 1942. He married Jane Knudsen of St. Edward, Nebraska on December 28, 1941. He entered the Army Air Corp in 1942, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He was an instructor in photo intelligence and served at McDill Air Force Base in Florida for two and one half years and then was sent overseas to Okinawa until the war ended. Following his service time, he attended medical school at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, where he completed his medical education and internship in 1951. They had three children: Katherine (Dennis) Guenther, Toledo, Ohio; Soren (Beverly) Nywall, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; and Sonja (Lars) Finkes, Green Valley, Arizona. He had six grandchildren: Erik Guenther, Kelly Guenther, Chris Nywall, Kent Nywall, Colleen Eimerman, and Kirstin Nywall and two great-grandchildren, Reese Eimerman and Wyatt Eimerman. The family moved to Slayton, Minnesota in 1951, where he practiced medicine for 29 years until his retirement in 1980. He loved practicing medicine and was particularly proud of delivering over 1,000 babies during his nearly 30 years of practice. After his retirement, he moved to Green Valley, Arizona in 1983. He was a member of the Green Valley Community Church, the Green Valley Kiwanis Club, and a 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Dean died on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the age of 91. He is survived by his three children, six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jane in 1992. A memorial service is scheduled for the spring of 2006 and will be announced at a later date.
