FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2005 ========================================================================= 1916 - Ellamay Oldewurtel - 2005 Ellamay Oldewurtel was born on June 10, 1916, on a farm near Iona, Minnesota to George and Hulda Kienietz Thompson. As a young girl the Thompson family moved to a farm near Bear Lake Woods where she attended country school. On July 19, 1939, she and Henry Oldewurtel were married in Iona. Together they farmed near Lake Wilson then near Clear Lake, South Dakota until moving to Slayton in 1957. Ellamay worked at several departments at the Murray County Hospital for seven years then at Champion Homes for two years before her retirement. Henry passed away on March 11, 1993. Ellamay moved to the Westside Apartments and spent many years there. Due to failing health, she entered the Slayton Manor Care Center and on March 31, 2003, moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone and passed away there on October 5, 2005, at the age of 89. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton and belonged to Ladies Aid. Ellamay enjoyed quilting, reading, music, traveling and spending time with her family and many friends. Survivors include two sons, two daughters and their spouses: Anita and Gil Wiley, Jenkins, MO; Carol and John Sandy, Sedalia, MO; DeLos (Del) and Diana Oldewurtel, Piedmont, SD; and Mylan and Helen Ray, Pipestone, MN; 13 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Carlson, Fulda, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; son Leo; three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Loney officiating. The organist was Kathy Schwartz. The pallbearers were Darrell Carlson, Gary Reese, Eldon Larson, Leon Thompson, Steve Blomendaal and Dennis Beers. Interment is at the Slayton Cemetery, Slayton, MN.
