FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: May 2007 ========================================================================= Everett Oolman, the son of Joe and Martha Leebens Oolman, was born on June 7, 1916 on a farm near Lismore, MN. He moved into Lismore with his family at a young age and attended public school in Lismore. At the age of 12 they moved to a farm north of Fulda and he later graduated from the Fulda High School in 1932. In March of 1939 Everett joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Lewiston, MN for one year. He then went to the west coast and worked at various jobs in Washington and Oregon before going to Wake Island to help build an Air Force Base. On December 23, 1941 Everett was taken prisoner by the Japanese and spent forty-four months in prisoner camps in China and Japan. Upon returning home after his release in 1945, he began farming with his brother. Everett was united in marriage to Arlene Duerr on November 28, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived and farmed north of Fulda and raised their nine children. In 1980 they retired from farming and in 1981 they moved to a home in Fulda. Everett passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 90. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. Everett also served as a director of Farmers Co-op Elevator of Fulda and belonged to the Survivors Of Wake Island and the Prairieland Ex POW’s. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and traveling, especially the western U.S.. Everett enjoyed beer can collecting and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Fulda, MN; nine children and their spouses, Ronald and Sheila Oolman of Grimes, IA, Wayne and Elaine Oolman of Brandon, SD, Lynn Oolman of Minneapolis, MN, Luann Dennis of Rosemont, MN, Larry and Kris Oolman of Laramie, WY, Julie and Darryl Sandhurst of Avoca, MN, Dale and Elizabeth Oolman of Mantorville, MN, Jim and Linnette Oolman of Bloomington, MN and Diane and Dennis Wagner of Maple Grove, MN; fifteen grandchildren, Kristen and Jeff Monson, John Oolman, Paul Dennis, Laura Dennis, Matthew Oolman, Kathleen Oolman, Amy Sandhurst, Thomas Sandhurst, Olivia Oolman, David Oolman, Emmett Oolman, Natasha Hansen, Ellie Oolman, Joel Wagner and Leah Wagner; two great-grandchildren, Casey Monson and Reese Monson and one brother-in-law, Emory Beckman. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Russell Oolman and three sisters, Jo Lee, Mayphine Hinesly and Leonne “Babe” Beckman and one son-in-law, Rob Dennis. Funeral services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 with the Rev. Wayne Krohe officiating. The organist is Irene Wahl. The soloist is A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers are his sons Ronald, Wayne, Lynn, Larry, Dale and James Oolman.
