Murray County, Minnesota to Alfred and Alice Synnerholm Stoneberg. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1929. Edith then attended Mankato Normal School. Following school Edith taught in country schools in the Avoca area. She later taught in Fenton Twp. District # 99. On January 1, 1946, she and Gordon Oslund were married at Avoca. Following their marriage, they farmed in Fenton Twp. and raised their four children. Edith returned to teaching in 1961 and taught in the Lake Wilson and Chandler schools. In 1963 she started teaching fourth grade in Slayton. In 1975 Edith and Gordon moved to Slayton. Gordon passed away on February 28, 1976. Edith retired in 1978. In May 2001 Edith became a resident of the Slayton Manor and passed away there on January 19, 2005 at the age of 91. Edith was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler. Edith was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and belonged to the W.E.L.C.A. She also was a Sunday school teacher and did mission quilting. Edith also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, This and That club and the Retired Teacher Association. Her favorite pastimes included sewing, reading, traveling, gardening, and Friday night with the other retired teachers. Survivors include three children and their spouses; Gary and Sherri Oslund of Anaheim, CA, Elaine and Ron Fick of Luverne, MN, and Jim Oslund of Slayton; nine grandchildren, Aaron McNeil and his wife Karen, Perry McNeil, David Cummiskey, Mary Oslund, Eric Oslund and his wife, Nichole, Shawn Oslund, Shane Oslund and his wife, Kristen, Gordon Oslund, and Tony Oslund, three step-grandchildren, Ryan Fick, Melissa Fick, and Lisa Fick, 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Viola and her husband, Bill Carlson of Mankato, MN and Muriel Erickson of Fairmont, two sisters-in-law, Leota Oslund of Dresser, WI, and Lois Reinhold of Sweet Home, OR. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, son, Richard, one grandson, Christopher Cummiskey. Funeral Services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on January 22, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Duane Miller officiating. The organist is Twyla Hungerford. The pallbearers are Aaron McNeil, Perry McNeil, Gordon Oslund, David Cummiskey, Henry Smith, and Dennis Lundblad. The honorary pallbearers are Lester Chmela, Ron Mesner, Vernon Strampe, and Jeff Bonnstetter. Interment at Chandler Lutheran Cemetery Chandler, MN. Totske Funeral Home in charge of arrangement.
