The family lived in Heron Lake until 1990 when they moved to their acreage east of Slayton. Lee had just completed his sophomore year at Murray County Central High School. Lee passed away on June 29, 2005 at his home at the age of 17. He was a member of Skandia Free Church where he played bass guitar with the worship team, was in youth group and attended Bible camp. He participated in the one act plays at school and played drums and bass guitar in band and sang in choir. Lee enjoyed reading the Bible and Christian books, Christian music, lifting weights, singing, had just earned his purple belt in karate, drawing, and spending time with his family and friends, especially their fishing trips up north. Also playing Frisbee in the backyard with his family. Survivors include his parents, Alan and Deb Petersen of rural Slayton; one brother, Ben, and his wife, Veronique Petersen of Richfield, MN; two sisters, Missy and Emily Petersen both at home; maternal grandparents, Henry and Eleanor Glawe, paternal grandmother, Amy Petersen and maternal great-grandmother, Theresa Glawe all of Slayton. He is preceded in death by grandfathers, Loren Petersen and Roy Rosenboom. Memorial Services were held Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Skandia Free Church in rural Slayton, MN with the Pastor Ken Culbertson officiating. Special music by the Rev. Ben Den Hartog.
