He grew up in Lake Wilson and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1971. On June 19, 1971 he and Peggy Timmerman were married at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. Following their marriage, they lived in Lake Wilson and Fred worked on the elevator. They lived in Garvin in 1972-73 and Fred worked in Marshall. They moved to Hadley in 1973 and Fred went to work at Champion Homes in Slayton. Fred was diagnosed with MS in 1974 and was unable to work after that. Fred passed away at his home on February 3, 2005 at the age of 51. He was a life member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and many friends. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Platt of Hadley; two sons: Todd and his fiancée, Ann Mettler of Lake Wilson, and Jason and Nicki Platt of Lake Wilson; Ann’s three daughters, Beth, Mary and Katie and grandson, Joshua; a brother, sister and their spouses: Jerry and Donna Platt of Lake Wilson, and Connie and Ron Dirks of Slayton; and step-father, Lyle Preston of Pipestone. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis, mother, Doris Platt Preston, brothers, Mick and Bill Platt and sister, Shirley Platt. Funeral Services were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Jon Skaar officiating. The organist was Darlene Bose. Special music by Heidi Winter. The pallbearers were Mark Timmerman, Bryan Timmerman, Shane Carlson, John Platt, Bruce Hurd and Marty Bujnowski. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Wilson, MN.
