FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2004 ========================================================================= 1930 - Peter Claries Prins - 2004 Peter Claries Prins was born on February 16, 1930 to Gerrit and Josie (DeJager) Prins in Moulton Township, Murray County, MN. He attended country school and Chandler Public School. As a young man he farmed with his family. On July 8, 1948, Peter married Gert Peters in Chandler, MN where they have lived their entire life together. Peter worked with his father running a mobile feed mill. In 1949, he began working for Floyd Grieg, and in 1960, he became manager of the Hadley Farmer's Grain Company in Chandler and in 1969, and started Prins Grain Company. In 1987, he sold his business to his sons, but in retirement he continued to spend his days at the elevator and loved to share a cup of coffee with his friends at the café. Peter enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time with his children and grandchildren, who had a special place in his heart. He was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church of Chandler where he served as deacon and elder. He was a charter member of the Chandler Christian School Society and was also active in the community serving on several boards, such as the Chandler Christian School, Edgebrook Care Center, Hadley Farmers Elevator and Chandler Funeral Association. Peter loved music and singing in church choirs and men's quartets for many years. On Sunday, June 13, 2004, he entered Sioux Valley Hospital after suffering a severe stroke. Peter died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the age of 74 with his family at his side. Peter is lovingly remembered by his wife Gert, Chandler, MN; four sons: Allen (Sue), Chandler, MN; Gary (Charlene), Wilmont, MN; David (Dianne), Chandler, MN; and Bob (Faith), Chandler, MN; one daughter, Kayleen (Rev. Greg) Dyk, Sanborn, IA; seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (Willard) Sankey, Edgerton, MN; and Joann (Theodore "Bud") Van Peursem, Leota, MN, and one brother Daryl, Sioux Falls, SD. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral Services were held on Monday, June 21, 2004; 10:30 am at the Christian Reformed Church of Chandler, Chandler, MN with Rev John Engbers and Seminarian Brian Kuyper, officiating. Organists were Pat Holm and Rose Van Nieuwenhuyzen. Soloist was Dennis Tinklenberg. Special music by his grandchildren. Casket bearers were Jason Prins, Jeff Prins, Eric Prins, Jade Prins, Grant Prins, Justin Dyk, Shaun Prins, and Jordan Dyk. Honorary casket bearers were the rest of his grandchildren. Interment in Chandler Memorial Cemetery, Chandler, MN.
