FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2004 ========================================================================= 1931-LAWRENCE 'BUTTS' PROBST-2004 Lawrence "Butts" Probst was born September 22, 1931, in Wilmont, Minnesota to George and Caroline (Krell) Probst. Butts attended school at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School, in Wilmont. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1949. Butts entered the United States Navy in 1951. He was stationed on the US Comstock LDS#19. He served his country during the Korean Conflict before honorably discharged in 1954. After the service, Butts returned to Wilmont. He was Quartermaster of the VFW for over 40 years. He was active in baseball for the Wilmont town team. Butts worked at the Wilmont Liquor Store for over 14 years. He then worked for the Nobles County Highway Department before retiring January 1, 1987. Butts entered the Minnesota Veteran Home in Luverne, in 2002. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont; the Wilmont VFW; and was active in th District VFW and th Wilmont VFW baseball program. Butts passed away at the Minnesota Veterans Home on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the age of 72. Butts is survived by his two brothers Arnold Probst, Wilmont and Stanley (Florence) Probst, Rochester; four sisters: Marie Schissel, Albertville; Evelyn (Bob) Galagan, Worthington; Shirley Becker, Worthington and Colleen (Francis) Koehne, Worthington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Alvin Probst; sister Kathlyn Huisman and three brothers-in-law. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 6, 2004 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gerald Kosse officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont. Dingmann Funeral Home in Wilmont in charge of arrangements.
