FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: March 2005 ========================================================================= 1924 Edwin SANDHURST 2004 Edwin Franklin Sandhurst, the son of John and Sadie Basche Sandhurst, was born December 12th 1924 in Iona, MN. He grew up in the Fulda, MN and attended country school. And entered the U.S. Army in January of 1945 and served in Korea until his discharge in December of 1946. Ed was united in marriage to Barbara Hinricks on June 25, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN. After their marriage they lived in the Fulda area where they farmed for 28 years. In 1983 they moved into Fulda and he worked for the city of Fulda. Ed passed away at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. on April 23, 2004 at the age of 79. He was a member of faith Lutheran Church an Avoca, MN, where he was a past councilman, the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017. Ed was noted for his woodworking, which he shared with his family and friends. At enjoyed volunteering his craft skills at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Barbara of Fulda, MN; five children and their spouses, Dennis and Deb Sandhurst of Madeira, CA, Verlyn and Holly Sandhurst of Omaha, NE, Darryl and Julie Sandhurst of Avoca, MN Sheila and Doug Penoyer of Aitkin, MN and Shirley Conner of Luverne, MN; ten grandchildren, Emily Sandhurst, Eric Sandhurst, Tim Sandhurst, Amy Sandhurst, Tom Sandhurst, held Michelle Penoyer, Denise Penoyer, Kristin Penoyer, Ryan Conner and Ian Conner; three step grandsons, Justin, Tony and Nate Coffey; one brother, Vince Sanders and his wife Marlene of New Ulm, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, and. Lester Sandhurst, one sister Mabel Dirks, an infant sister, and an infant grandson. Funeral services were held at Faith Lutheran Church, Avoca, MN 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2004 with the Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. The organist was Nancy Pierson. The pallbearers were Gary Sandhurst, Bobby Sandhurst, Greg Persing, Steve Sandhurst, Roland Sandhurst and Gordon Olson. Interment 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 26th, 2004 at Immanuel American Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fulda, Military honors provided by the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017.
