FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2004 ========================================================================= 1946 - Vaughn Elwood Smith - 2004 Vaughn Smith was born on June 30, 1946, at Tyler, Minnesota to Chalmer Jake and Alice Elwood Smith. He grew up on the farm in Cameron Towsnhip, northwest of Lake Wilson and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U. S Army and served in Germany. Following his discharge in 1967, Vaughn returned to the family farm and farmed with his father and uncle. He and Carol Ann Knollenberg were married on November 29, 1975, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iona. Following their marriage, they lived on the Smith family farm and Vaughn continued to farm and work for area farmers. Farming was his life. In 1998, Vaughn started working for Schwan s in Marshall as a custodian. Vaughn passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2004, at the Murray County Memorial Hospital in Slayton at the age of 58. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Lake Wilson and served as usher. He also belonged to the Lake Wilson Legion Post # 285. Vaughn enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, woodworking and hunting. Survivors include his wife Carol, rural Woodstock; three daughters: Crystal Smith, River Falls, WI; Sherri Smith, Mishawaka, IN and Marie Smith at home and her fianci, Jonathan Hess stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY; one granddaughter Stephanie; his mother Alice Smith, Lake Wilson; and one sister and her husband Janet and Mark Timmerman, Lake Wilson. He was preceded in death by his father and sister Susan Smith. Funeral Services were held at United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Monday, December 6, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. The organist was Julie Brossard. The pallbearers were Ian Timmerman, Clint Timmerman, Dave Knollenberg, Troy Schettler, Darwin Carlson and Kent Carlson. Interment is at Hillside Cemetery Lake Wilson, MN.
