FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2006 ========================================================================= Cecilia Margaret Spartz was born on June 30, 1912 in Slayton Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Peter and Anna Kayser Herrig. She attended St. Columba School in Iona and graduated from Slayton High School in Slayton. Cecilia attended Teacher's Training in Mankato. Cecilia attended summer classes at Mankato State College and St. Cloud State College. She taught county school for several years. On June 14, 1949 she and Alfred Spartz were married at St. Columba Church in Iona. Following their marriage they farmed on the Spartz family farm southwest of Iona. In 1964 they moved to Slayton. Cecilia served as Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles in Murray County for several years. Alfred passed away on May 25, 1978. Due to failing health Cecilia moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton and passed away there on October 8, 2006 at the age of 94. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton and was active with the W.C.C.W. She also was a member of St. Columba's Catholic Daughters. Cecilia loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, entertaining, sewing and playing cards. Survivors include her three daughters and their spouses: Sheryle and Dan Ohme of Bloomington, MN, Charlene and Alan Sherwood of Chanhassen, MN, Mary Jane and Paul Lessard of Phoenix, AZ, six grandchildren, Justin and Jerod Kirk, Nathan, Matthew and Jennifer Ohme, Brittney Spartz, one sister, Rosella Sauers of Buena Park, CA, four sisters- in-law, Carolyn Henning of Adrian, MN , Agnes Herrig of Iona, MN, Clara Spartz of Iona, MN, and Gen Spartz of Slayton, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alfred, five sisters, Mary Muenster, Clara Herrig, Josephine Herrig, Suzanna Sollinger and Dorothy Tabor, and two brothers, Hubert and Raymond Herrig. Funeral Services will be held at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Tim Biren officiating. The organist is Sharon Lais. The song leader is LaVina Fox. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers are Denny Spartz, Duane Spartz, Rod Saprtz, and David Herrig. Interment at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m., at the Totzke Funeral home in Slayton. Rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a prayer services at 7:30 p.m., Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. ========================================================================= Copyright Judy Clarke 2006.
