FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: February 2006 ========================================================================= Murray Cnty - MN Loretta Arlene Tammen was born on December 20,1925, on farm in Fenton Township,Murray County, Minnesota to Alvin and Edith Miller Nord. She grew up on the family farm south of Iona and graduated from Chandler Public School. She graduated from secretarial school in Minneapolis. On March 10, 1945, she and George Tammen were married at the Iona Presbyterian Church in Iona, Minnesota. Following their marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Loretta worked as a secretary. In 1947, George re-enlisted in the Air Force and they lived in several locations including Japan, Illinois, Chandler, Germany and Slayton. Loretta worked as the secretary to the principal at West Elementary School for 24 years. George died on July 12, 1988. Loretta continued living in Slayton and has lived in the Sunrise Terrace Apartments. Loretta passed away on February 9, 2006, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iona where she had been an elder, belonged to the UPW and served as organist for 38 years. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Murray County and did much volunteer work at Slayton Manor. Loretta enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, music and playing the organ, traveling, and spending time with her two grandchildren. Survivors include one son David Tammen and his wife Kitty, Morris, IL; two grandchildren: Bradley Tammen, Naperville, IL and Kristen Tammen, Peoria, IL; and one brother Chuck Nord and his wife Betty, Truman, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; infant twin sons: Daniel and David; sister Evelyn Behrends and brother Jerry Nord. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Iona, MN on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Poppen officiating. The organist was Bonnie Poppen. The pallbearers were Ron Behrends, Rod Behrends, Jeff Nord, Ken Hatch, Dennis Sigurdson, Ron Gilliland and Rick Parker.
