She was baptized and confessed her faith in the Chandler Reformed Church and attended Country School District #57. As a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper for several neighbors and later went to a Minneapolis beauty school for one year. She returned to Southwest Minnesota and worked as a beautician’s apprentice in Luverne, Minnesota. On March 9, 1937, Jennie married Gerald Van Reulder at her parents home in Chandler, Minnesota,where they made their home. In the late 1930s Jennie opened “Jennie Wren’s”, a beauty shop in Chandler, which she owned and operated for many years. In 1942, they moved to a farm outside of Chandler and in 1963, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. While in Minneapolis, Jennie worked as a nurse’s aide, a med nurse and cared for several individuals privately in their homes. In 1976, after retiring, they moved back to Chandler. Jennie was always known as a caring individual taking care of many in their own homes as well as caring for her daughter through her terminal illness. She was a member of the Chandler Reformed church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, as well as active in the church building committee and ladies aid. Jennie was also active in the Senior Citizen’s Center and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafts. After her husband’s death she enjoyed traveling with friends, including a trip to Europe and wintering in Arizona for 17 years. In November of 2002, she became a resident of Pipestone Good Samaritan Home in Pipestone, Minnesota and in September of 2005, she moved to the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota where she died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the age of 93. Jennie is survived by her three daughters: Jennet Mollema, Chandler, MN; Marilyn Walhof, New Brighton, MN; and Conni Parrish, El Segunda, CA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sophia Sorenson, Dana Point, CA and Adrianna Wagley, Luverne, MN; two brothers: John W. (Dorothy) Moret, Slaughters, KY and John P. (Francis) Moret, Jeffers, MN; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Moret, Slayton, MN; special friends Arlene Post and Marie Van Dam, both of Chandler, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents; husband Gerald; one daughter Susan Pronk, one brother Martin and two sisters, Cornelia Mollema and Margaret Roelofs preceded her in death. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 13, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Chandler Reformed Church, Chandler, MN with Rev. Gary Mulder officiating. Organist was Charlene Prins. Soloist was Marilyn Jasper. Congregational songs included: “My Faith Looks Up To Thee”, and “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”. Casketbearers were Jeff Arends, Jon Mollema, William Fischer, Paul Varhol, Steve Franke, and Matthew Fischer. Interment in Chandler Memorial Cemetery, Chandler, MN.
