Murray County

 

Mary Elizabeth Van Ruler was born March 5, 1915 to Henry and Margaret 

(Murphy) Bothof on the family farm in Fenton Township, Murray County, MN.  

She was baptized and confessed in the Christian faith and attended country 

school in Fenton Township.

 On December 2, 1937 Mary married Joe Van Ruler on the family farm and 

after which made their home on a farm near Leota, MN.  In 1942 they 

moved to the family farm near Chandler, MN where they remained through 

their retirement.

 In December of 2001 Mary became a resident of the Arnold Memorial Heath

Care Center in Adrian, MN where she died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the 

age of 92.  

 Mary is survived by five sons, Henry of Chandler, MN, Harris (Florence) 

of Chandler, MN, Marion of Chandler, MN, Nelvin (Linda) of Trosky, MN, 

and Donald (Barbara) of Hastings, MN; three daughters, Margaret Faber 

of Woodstock, MN, Jean (Dale) Petersen of Park Rapids, MN, and Betty 

(Robert) Zahnow of Big Stone City, SD; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-

four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many nieces, 

nephews and cousins.

 Her husband, Joe, one daughter, Martha DeWeerd, two grandsons, Jeffrey 

Faber and Dean Van Ruler, two granddaughters, Valerie Van Ruler, and 

Brenda Van Ruler, two sons-in-law, Harvey Faber and Marvin DeWeerd, 

three sisters, infant, Henrietta, Catherine Van Roekel, and Gertrude 

Olivier and two brothers-in-law, Geurt Van Roekel and William Olivier 

preceded her in death.
