She was baptized and confessed her faith in the Christian Reformed Church and attended the Chandler Public School. In 1942, she moved with her family to Chandler, Minnesota. On September 10, 1950, Nelvina married John Vis in Chandler, Minnesota and they made their home on several farms in the Chandler area. In 1955, they moved to a farm northwest of Chandler where they lived until January of 2006, when the moved into their beloved home in Chandler. Over the years, Nelvina worked along with her husband on the farm, as well, as a bee keeper, candling eggs at Chandler Produce, clerking at the Chandler Grocery Store, KP at the Chandler Air Base and as a cook for the Chandler Christian School for 25 years. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Chandler where she was active in the Sunshine Guild, Dorcas Society, and Wednesday Neighborhood Bible Study Group. Nelvina enjoyed the outdoors, her flowers and gardening, working alongside her husband and cooking for her family and friends. Most of all she loved family gatherings and traveling with family and friends. Her faith was very important to her and she will always be remembered as a woman who lived her life through her loving and charitable actions and deeds. On Thursday, November 23, 2006, Nelvina, after spending a day with family, at her home in Chandler, peacefully joined her Lord and Savior the age of 75. Nelvina is survived by her husband John, Chandler, MN; three daughters: Char (Larry) DeGroot, Luverne, MN; Marilyn (Lloyd) De Boer and Carolyn (Lyle) DeBoer, both of Beaver Creek, MN; nine grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; one sister Mary Groen, Leota, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents; one daughter Darlene; one sister Grace Groen; and one foster brother Pete Loenhorst; preceded her in death. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church of Chandler, Chandler, MN with Rev. Mark Klompien and Rev. Gary Mulder officiating. Organist was Pat Holm. Casket bearers were all her grandchildren: Michael Hart, Scott Hart, Andrea Hart, Darcie De Boer, Darin De Boer, Devin De Boer, Paul De Boer, Kristin Trower, and Lyle De Boer, Jr. Interment in Chandler Memorial Cemetery, Chandler, MN. 2nd Obit: Nelvina P Vis, 75, of Chandler died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, at her home in Chandler.
