FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2006 ========================================================================= ERNEST CHRISTIAN WANCENRIED, 86, of Avoca, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. Born March 23, 1920, in Orange, Va., he was the son of Ernest and Marie Hoffman Wancenried. He married Myrtle Jens Dec. 25, 1946, at Faith Lutheran Church, Avoca. She died Oct. 17, 1985. In 1921, he moved with his family to Floodwood, and in 1928, they moved to a farm near Worthington. In 1933, they moved to a farm near Avoca, where he attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to the Avoca area. After marriage, they farmed northeast of Avoca. They retired in 1984, but continued to live on the farm. In 2005, he became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Avoca, where he served on the church council, was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher and served on the memorial committee and as a mentor. He was also a member of the Currie American Legion Post, was past commander and served in various other second district offices. He also served as Lime Lake Township treasurer, on the New Dawn Board of Directors, was a member of the Fulda Lions Club and was the Murray County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1991. Surviving are five daughters, Rosanne Wancenried, Avoca, Laura Wancenried, St. Cloud, Rhonda Cousins, Winner, S.D., Colleen Wancenried, Hopkins, and Juanita Oeltjenbruns, Avoca; one sister, Frederica Wegener, Rochester; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Avoca. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Avoca, with the Rev. Ted Kunze officiating.
