FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2004 ========================================================================= 1917 - Winthrop William Warren - 2004 Winthrop Warren was born on June 23, 1917, in Slayton, Minnesota to James and Bertha Smith Warren. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school district # 30, graduated from Slayton High School in 1934, and graduated from Long Beach Business College in 1937. On November 20, 1940, he and Loretta McKenny were married at the United Methodist Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage they continued to farm the Warren homestead which Winthrop’s grandfather homesteaded in 1879. Winthrop and Loretta farmed and raised their two sons. They retired from farming in 1992, and continued living on the family farm. In 1976, they built a home on Lake Shetek and they spent many happy summers there. Due to failing health, Winthrop moved to the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton and passed away there on December 25, 2004, at the age of 87. Winthrop was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson and served on various committees. He was also a counselor for the youth group and organized many of their activities. Winthrop was on the Edgerton School Board for 14 years, helped organize the Boy Scout Troop in Edgerton and served as scoutmaster, belonged to Farm Bureau for many years and served as president, was a 4-H leader for the Chanarambie Club and belonged to the Chandler Senior Citizens. Winthrop enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and cards at senior citizens and spending time with his family and many friends. Survivors include his wife Loretta Warren, Lake Wilson, MN; two sons and there spouses: Thomas and Cheryl Warren, Alexandria, MN and Timothy and Alexis Warren, Wilton, IA; four grandchildren; Tami Warren; Chad Warren; Jeff Warren and Gina Warren; three great-grandchildren; Remi Warren, Shania Warren and Blake Warren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Arlouine Warren and grandson Reed Warren. Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. The organist was Julie Brossard. The soloist was A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers were Aryln Schmidt, Milt Schuur, Les DeGroot, Walt Warren, Norman Bose and Dwayne Schmidt. Interment is at the Slayton Cemetery. Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton in charge of arrangements.
