Westrip were held last Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian church with Rev. Dr. Walton conducting the services. A mixed quartea composed of Mrs. B.W. Lloyd, Miss Bertha Bengston, and C.E. Brandt and O.E. Jorgenson sang three hymns, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Let the Lower Lights be Burning" and "God Be with You Till We Meet Again." Employees of the Citizens State Bank acted as pall bearers; A.H. Bodelson, F.W. Penrod, Allen Peterson, Harry Moon, J.T. Schueller and O.E. Jorgenson. The officers and directors of the bank acted as honorary pall bearers. Interment was in Prairie Hill cemetery. Mr. Westrip passed away at his home in Fulda on Tuesday morning, February 5, at 5:40. The cause of his death is given as hypertension, an illness caused by extreme high blood pressure, with which Mr. Westrip has suffered for years. Even as early as 1914 his health had began to fail and he retired from the farm. But by carefully guarding his health, many years went by before serious illness overtook him. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. George Hall and Mrs. Homer J. Barnes of Seward township, and two grandchildren, Esther Mae Barnes and Robert James Barnes. There are also surviving him one brother, Edward. Henry James Westrip was the son of James and Elizabeth Booth Westrip. He was born February 20, 1866, at Roscoe, Illinois. He spent his boyhood and young manhood there and on Spetember 15, 1886, he was united in marriage to Ida Margaret Merchant at Beloit, Wis. Two years later, in 1886, they came to the farm in Seward township, five miles south of Fulda. After a quarter century on the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Westrip moved to Fulda in 1914, and have lived there since. During his residence in town one of his finest civic honors came to him in 1923 when he was appointed to fill the vacancy in the office of mayor. He was subsequently elected to that office for four consecutive terms, at the end of which time he refused to serve another because of failing health. Among the relatives who came to the services were Raleigh Watts and son, Millard, of Pipestone, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Shanks of Worthington. Mr. Watts is a cousin of Mrs. Westrip, and Mrs. Shanks a cousin of Mr. Westrip." (This article came from a relative s scrapbook. The name and date of the paper are unknown.)
