He grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1971. Following high school Rod worked at the U.B.C. lumberyard in Slayton. He then attended Mankato State University. Rod worked for Finley Engineering in Slayton and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On June 14, 1975 he and Cindy Vogel were married at St. Anne's Church in Bismarck, ND. Following their marriage they lived in Devil's Lake, ND and Rod worked for the Continental Telephone Company. He then did telephone consulting working in various places like Columbia, SC, Pineville, NC, Sonora, CA, Missoula, MT, Plains, MT. They then moved to Marshall, MN. While living in Marshall Rod attended Southwest State University graduating in 1992 Summa Cum Laude with an Engineering Technology Degree. Rod was currently working as the Director of Telecommunications for Southwest/West Central Service Cooperatives of Marshall. Rod passed away on May 22, 2006 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous battle with Leukemia he was surrounded by his loving family he was 53. Rod's battle with Leukemia was an inspiration to all. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Slayton. Rod enjoyed golfing, woodworking, photography, skiing, camping, flying, playing guitar, boating and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Wrege of Cottonwood, MN, two sons, Jason Wrege of Macon, GA and Dan Wrege and his fiancée Jenny Cook of Cape Canaveral, FL his mother, Darlene Wrege of Slayton, MN, three brothers, Jim Wrege of Jackson, MN, Gary Wrege of Hutchinson, MN and Darrell Wrege and his wife Vicki of Bismarck, ND, two nieces, DiAnn Wrege and Taylor Wrege. He is preceded in death by his father, Albert. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. David Poppen officiating. Interment was in private.
