FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: April 2007 ========================================================================= George Herman Zanter, the son of Paul and Ida Bremer Zanter, was born on August 22, 1920 in Fulda, MN. He grew up near Fulda and Avoca, MN and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in Fulda. George entered the U.S. Army on S eptember 15, 1942 and served during WWII in the European Theatre. He was injured during the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged in August of 1944. George returned to live in Avoca where he farmed and later ran a lawn care business. He moved to Slayton and lived at the Sunrise Terrace Apartments and then moved into the Slayton Golden Living Center. George passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Sanford Health Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 86. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN. George belonged to the Avoca American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting guns, especially Browning. Survivors include two brother-in-laws, Leland of Avoca, MN and Walter of Minneapolis; two sister-in-laws, Shirley of Bemidji, MN and Babe of Carmichael, CA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Paul, Albert and Herman and three sisters, Elizabeth "Sis", Bertha "Dottie" and Mary Ann. Funeral services were held at Faith Lutheran Church Avoca, MN at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 5, 2007 with the Rev Ted Kunze officiating. The organist was Sherri Isder. The pallbearers were Steve Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Dennis Opdahl, Roger Opdahl, Gordy Opdahl and Wayne Paplow. Interment will be at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
