Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Jackie Burg Feldman Nicollet Leader Sat. July 28, 1917 "Death claimed another one of Nicollet county's old settlers last Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, when John Burg passed away into the great beyond, at the home of his son Math., in this village. Mr. Burg had been failing in health for some time and his death was due to chronic interstitial nephritis. The deceased was born in Luxemburg, Germany about 82 years ago, and came to America and direct to Nicollet county, when he was 18 years of age. About sixty years ago he was united in marriage with Kathryn Keltgen of Belgrade and they spent most of their married life on the farm and in this village. His wife preceded him in death four years ago. Deceased is survived by five sons and five daughters as follows: Mathias, Anthony, William and Joseph, of Nicollet; Henry, of Oshawa; Mrs. F. C. Otto, Lakefield; Mrs. George Grigsby, Mrs. Jesse Pruett, Mrs. D. A. Murphy and Mrs. Richard Gutteron, all of San Diego, Cal. He also leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Susan Schuveiller of this place. The deceased was one of the well-known pioneer settlers of this community. He took a prominent part in the struggles of the early days, went through the Indian outbreak and was also a veteran of the Civil war. The funeral will occur from the Catholic church at Middle Lake and will probably take place next Tuesday morning, although this has not been definitely decided, awaiting the arrival of his children from California. Rev. John Wagner of Nicollet will conduct the services and interment will be made in the cemetery of that parish."
