FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Linda Miller Submitted: April 2006 ========================================================================= JAY HUGHES December 15, 1890-November 17 , 1944 OBITUARY, Le Sueur News-Herald, Wednesday, November 22, 1944 "JAY HUGHES DIED FRIDAY IN HOSPITAL This community was saddened last Friday when it learned that one of its former townsmen, Jay Hughes, had passed away that morning at the Veterans Hospital, St. Paul, where he had been a patient for some weeks. Jay Hughes was born in Lake Prairie township on December 15, 1893, the son of Thomas and Mary Hughes. He attended the rural school of that community and later St. Ann's school , where he graduated from the commercial department. He served with the navy in World War I, and was a member of the local American Legion post. Following the war he served as salesman for the Eagle Roller Mills, New Ulm, and before his illness for the ???rdy Salt Co. of Kansas City. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Emma and a son, Gene, six sisters and two brothers, Kate and James of Le Sueur; George and Elizabeth of Mankato, Mrs. Rose Kiley, of Minneapolis, Mrs. Mabel Wick, of Cumberlin, Wisconsin; Mrs. Bea Rice of Breckenridge and Mrs. Margaret Louden, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Funeral services were conducted in Minneapolis on Monday morning from the Church of Holy ???, and interment was in the National Cemetery at Fort Snelling. Le Sueur Legion men served as pallbearers. They were Joseph Schwob, James Coleman, Leonard Wieland, John Peterson, Joseph Rudin and Walter Schwartz. Attending the funeral from Le Sueur were James Morgan, Robert Florine, Mrs. Ben McCue, Mrs. Bloss of Shakopee, Mrs. Frank Hughes and Statia Sheehan of St. Peter, Thomas Shea, Joseph Fay and Mr. and Mrs. James Coleman." ========================================================================= Copyright Linda Miller 2006.
