She was born in the home where she died in September 1888. She was a student at St. Ann's in this city, when a young girl. After the death of her mother, seven years ago, she took charge of the house for her father and brother and remained on the farm until July 1918, when Mr. Hughes and daughter become residents of St.Peter. In January 1919 Mr. Hughes died, since which time Miss Hughes made her home with her brother Frank on the home farm in Lake Prairie. Miss Hughes was well known in LeSueur and enjoyed the good will and best wishes of a large circle of friends who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the relatives. Left to mourn her untimely demise are John M. Hughes of Alberta, Canada, Mrs .J.J. Morgan of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. G.G. Plant of Glasco, Mont., Edward J. Hughes of Grand Forks B.C., Harry Hughes of Whittier, Cal., Mathew, Laura and Raymond of Duluth, Leo and Frank at home. The funeral was private and held Friday morning, from the home in Lake Prairie, the interment being at Calvary cemetery at St. Pater, Father Sullivan officiating at the grave. At the hour of the funeral Father Cashman of this city celebrated mass for the dead, in St. Ann's church in this city. All the family were at home when death occurred, except Mrs. Morgan of Los Angeles and John and Edward Hughes of Canada. That the death of Miss Hughes was a surprise need not be told. She was a young lady who represented the picture of health, always. Her illness of a few days duration, was severe and though every effort was made to assist her, she could not withstand the disease. Taken hence at a time when young womanhood was entering upon her life work, the death casts a gloom over a large circle of friends with whom Lula Hughes was a favorite. Called hence, by the Master, who knows best and does best always, His children bow humbly in submission, remembering the words, 'Thy will be done'."
