BARBARA MARTI Mrs. Barbara Marti, widow of the late Rudolph Marti, died at the family home in West Newton, last Saturday afternoon, after an illness of less than a week. Mrs. Marti had been a resident of that township since 1858. Pneumonia was the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. Marti, whose maiden name was Miss Barbara Buckhauser, was born in Bavaria, Germany, August 18, 1832. When twenty years of age she came to America, arriving at Seneca, N.Y., in 1852, where she remained for a time. She was married to Rudolph Marti in New York state in 1854. Four years later the family moved to West Newton, when they settled on a farm. During the Indian uprising in 1862 they went to St. Peter, remaining there until the trouble wit the Indians had ended, when they returned to their farm. Her husband preceded her in death in 1874. Ten children were born to Mrs. Marti, seven of whom survive, as follows: George Marti, Charles Marti and Rudolph Marti, of this city; Mrs. George Walzer, Traverse, Mrs. Mathew Walzer, West Newton, Mrs. Andrew Weber, Bird Island; John Marti, St. Paul. She is also survived by forty-one grand children and nine great grand children. One sister, Mrs. Theresa Bastian of this city, and two half sisters, Mrs. Francisca Eckert of Florida, and Mrs. Josephine Huber of West Newton also survive. The funeral was held from the St. George Catholic church Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was at the St. George cemetery.
