Deceased settled to this country in the fifties, and during his long residence in our midst he proved a good, honorable citizen and neighbor, and as such was respected by all within the circle of his acquaintance. Early in the war his country called for soldiers to assist in preserving the Union and Flag, and none stepped to the front with more alacrity to answer that summons than did Michael McGraw. The kind and loving father, the true Christian, the respected citizen and beloved neighbor - he it is who passed to a veteran soldier's grave, a spot that will be honored through all coming time. The comrades left behind mourn his loss, and the old soldiers mingled their tears with those of his family as he passed from this to a better world. His race on earth is run; no more will mortal man gaze upon the once smiling face and fair form of Michael McGraw. The little vault wherein lie his remains shall be a hallowed spot -je me fie en Dieu. The funeral takes place today at 10:30, at the English Catholic Church. Fr. Jung will conduct the services. Michael McGraw was a member of Co. D, 9th Minn. Vols., Capt. A. K. Skaro commanding. ========================================================================= Copyright Linda Miller 2006.
