Okenfuss dated May 8, 2000.) JACOB HENDEL (1868-1945) Jacob (Jake) Hendel, son of Phillip and Catherine, was born in Landscheid, Luxembourg, on 26 January 1868. He too came to Caledonia, Minnesota, with his parents in 1869 and was raised on the family farm. He moved with his parents to Alton, Iowa, and then to Adrian, Minnesota. He married Mary Koessler (1874-1941) in 1899 and they lived for a time in the village of Lismore, Minnesota. In the 1910 Census, his mother, Catherine Hendel, was listed as living in his home, possibly until her death. Sometime after 1914 they moved to Van Nuys, California. They had no children. However, they raised Leo Bauer, son of Margaret Hendel, after her death in 1900. From his death certificate, I learned that Jacob was hit by a car in the evening near his home and received injuries that caused his death. Information from Mary's death certificate, was that she died 11 Nov 1941 in the Van Nuys Valley Hospital, five days after an operation for intestinal cancer. ======================================================================== Copyright Bob Arens 2005.
