Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church for Matt Arens Sr., 88-year-old Wilmont man who died Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 a. m. at a Worthington Rest Home of a heart condition. He had been in failing health about three weeks. Rev. Francis Kunz officiated at the services. Interment was in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were Jake Fath, Conrad Sasse, John Hoffman, Ed Bening, Herman Elsing and Ed Olson. Mr. Arens was born November 29, 1877 at Remsen, Iowa the son of Frank Arens and Justina Koob Arens. He attended grade school in Alton, Iowa. On October 16, 1900, he was married to Theresa Hendel at Adrian. They farmed in Nobles County south of Wilmont and near Lismore until 1954. when he retired and moved into Wilmont. A member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Mr. Arens was Larkin Township assessor for 12 years, Clerk of Larkin township for 20 years, and a member of the A.S.C. committee about four years. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry Slater (Genevieve) of Wilmont; three sons, Alphons of Wilmont, Francis of St. Paul and Matthew of Mankato; 27 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his fami1y. He was preceded in death by his wife, January 1, 1954; one son, Phillip; three infant sons [Julius, Nicholas and Vincent]; one infant daughter, [Veronica] and one grandson [James]. Relatives and friends form a distance attending the funeral services for Mr. Arens were Mr. and Mrs.[Henrietta Remackel] F. E. Arens and family of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. [Martha Ossefoort] Matt Arens Jr. and family of Mankato and Judy Arens of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. [Eloise Hernandez] Joe Arens and son Matt of Anaheim, California; Mr. and Mrs. [Rita Arens] Bill Gaasch of Iona; Mr. and Mrs. [Barbara Jackson] David Arens of Jordan; Mr. and Mrs. [LaVae Kohlrusch] Bob Arens of North St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nasers and son of Worthington; Bonnie Arens of Mankato; Mr. and Mrs. [Verdella Ann Deslauriers] Tom Slater and Joan Slater of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. [Marie Evelyn Slater] Don Schutz and family of Adrian; Ray Slater of Worthington; Mr. and Mrs. [Emma Cecelia Witmer] Clyde Moore of Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. Bob Eulberg and son, Jim of Hudson, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. [Frances Ruth Ropp] Lloyd Dreier and family of West Bend, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. [Mary Martha Slinger] John Arens of Woodstock; Mr. and Mrs. [Bernice Arens] Joe Duwenhoegger of Lismore; Mr. and Mrs. [Ida M.
