She was the daughter of Fredo Hartman and Catherine John. [Catherine died when Rose was about 4 years old. About 2 years later, Fredo married Mathilda Hebbleman.] She attended school in St. Kilian, Minnesota, and graduated from high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rose received her teaching degree from DePaul University in Chicago. She taught in Chicago for six years. Rose then moved to Wilmont, Minnesota. Alphons Arens and Rose were married on January 18, 1936, in Deer River, Minnesota. She taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Wilmont from 1953-1969. Rose moved to Orange County and taught for a time at St. Callistus Catholic School in Garden Grove, California. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Modesto, California. Rose died on November 26, 2000, at Arbor Valley Convalescent Home in Modesto, California. Rose is survived by six children, Joseph Arens and his wife Eloise of Nevada City, California, Margaret and her husband Zack Bachmeier of Modesto, California, Carolyn and her husband Bob Bruns of Worthington, Minnesota, Teresa and her husband Paul Nasers of Worthington, Minnesota, Bonita Bibbs of Dearborn, Michigan, and John Arens of Santa Maria, California; twenty three grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Hartman and his wife Adeline of West Concord, Minnesota, and John Hartman and his wife Betty of Washington, and three sisters, Germaine Dunn of Worthington, Teresa Moser of Wilmont, and Marilyn and her husband Bill Fest of Heron Lake, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, James, one grandson, Matt Arens, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Memorial mass was held on Saturday, December 9, 2000, at 1-.30 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Wilmont, Minnesota, with Father Gerald Kosse officiating. Burial was in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Cemetery in Wilmont. ======================================================================== Copyright.
