JOE GETZEL, 83, of Brewster, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at his home. Born March 23, 1921, in Fulda, he was the son of William and Anna Hostetler Getzel. He married Betty Franzen June 12, 1946, in Avoca. He grew up in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After marriage, he farmed for a time. He worked as an assistant manager at the Brewster Elevator. He then worked as a custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Brewster American Legion for several years until retiring in 2004. He was named Nobles County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1994. He served on the Brewster Fire Department for 18 years and on the Brewster City Council for 10 years. He was a member of the Brewster American Legion. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Rodney Getzel and Jason (Molly) Getzel, both of Brewster; one brother, Douglas (Donna) Getzel, Fulda; two sisters, Lucille Gerber and Dorothy (Russell) Gerdes, both of Fulda; stepmother, Frances Getzel, Fulda; three half sisters, Adele (Vince) Schindler, West Virginia, Vergene Boulet, Minneapolis, and Pat (Arvin) Loosbrock, St. Kilian; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brewster. The service will be 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brewster, with the Rev. David McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Brewster.
