FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: September 2005 ========================================================================= 1918-CECELIA MURPHY-2005 Cecelia Murphy, age 87, of Brewster, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Sunset Cottage in Worthington. She was born February 9, 1918, in Nobles County, to parents John P. and Mary M. (Hulsing) Mathias. She grew up along the shore of East Graham Lake on her parentís farm. As a young girl, she enjoyed gardening and hunting with her father. Cecelia attended Denton country school until she finished the 8th grade. She worked on the farm and learned to crochet and do handiwork with her mother. Cecelia married John Murphy on November 8, 1949, and they took a wedding trip and visited Joe and Sally Ebner in State Center, IA. Cecelia and John made their home on the John and Mary Mathias farm in Graham Lakes Township and her parents retired and moved to Worthington. Cecelia and John farmed until they retired in 1982. They rented the land to Tom and Joyce Bohn. Tom and Joyce have cared for Cecelia in many special ways and extended the time she was able to live independently. John Murphy died January 16, 1990 and Cecelia has lived on her farm until recently. Cecelia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, polka music and spending time with her dog, "Peaches". Cecelia is survived by Ebner and Mathias cousins, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Murphy. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 22, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, MN, with Fr. Andrew Olsem officiating. Casketbearers were: Patrick Ebner, Jon Ebner, Rick Shadle, George Mathias, Doug Mathias and Tom Murphy.
