Submitter's Notes in [...] MRS. J. REMACKEL WILMONT Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Good Counsel church on Thursday morning, December 29th at nine o'clock for Mrs. Jacob Remackel and were conducted by the Rev. Urban Buchheit. Pallbearers were Alfred Balster, J. J. Broich, George Hebig, John Kremer, Tony Scholtes and Henry Stuntebeck. Burial was made in the Wilmont Catholic cemetery. Anna C. Halfman was born on September 5, 1861 at Altenburg, Germany, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. [Anna Maria Cossmann] Peter Halfman. When a young girl she came [1881] to this country. On January 8, 1884, she was married to Jacob Remackel at Lyons, Iowa. [As of August, 2001, I've found no marriage record in the courthouse or Catholic churches in that (now, Clinton, IA.) vicinity.] They also lived at Wall Lake, Iowa before coming to Minnesota. [It was while living in Wall Lake that they 'acquired' the half-blood Native American infant, Walter Francis.] Mr. and Mrs. Remackel farmed south of Wilmont [West half sec. 25 Larkin twp. Nobles Co. MN] for eleven years [1893-1904] and then moved to their home in the northwest part of Wilmont where they have lived for the past 45 years. They have been residents of Nobles County for the past 56 years. Mrs. Remackel has been ill for the past several years and seriously ill since last July. Death was caused from a heart ailment. She was 88 years old. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies Altar Society. She is survived by her husband and an adopted daughter [natural daughter of the 'acquired' son, Walter Francis], Mrs. [Henrietta Remackel] Francis Arens of Rushmore [mailing address - actually the same West half sec. 25 Larkin twp. Nobles Co. MN], and six grand-children. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Honnef of Barford, Sask, Canada and a brother, Reinhard Halfman of Elgin, Nebraska. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. [It's interesting that no mention whatever is made of Jacob and Anna's "acquired" or possibly, adopted, son, Frank (Wm.) (Walter Franciscus) Remackel. Maybe it's because they didn't know if he was dead or alive.] Sympathy is extended the relatives by their many friends in their bereavement. ======================================================================== Copyright.
