Born March 5, 1919, in rural Tracy, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Wester Schons. He married Mary Lou Johnson Nov. 21, 1953, in Marshall. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural District 36 school. After his father's death in 1941, he farmed the family farm with his mother. He continued to farm there after marriage until 1962, when they moved to a farm near Rushmore. He was also a DeKalb seed corn dealer for 25 years. He retired in 1988, and they moved into Worthington in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Worthington, the Rushmore Senior Citizens, Birthday Club, Knights of Columbus, Golden K Kiwanis and several card clubs. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Wayne Schons, Sheldon, IA, and Irvin Jr. (Mickey) Schons, Rushmore; three daughters, Kathryn North, Ceres, CA, Peggy Schons Kappes, Alvin, TX and Susan (Lyle) Kawlewski, Ottertail; three sisters, Edith (Bob) Foley, New Ulm, Anna Mae Breczinski, Tracy, and Virginia (Jim) Foley, Slayton; 15 grandchidlren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Visistation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 6 p.m. rosary, at Benson Funeral Home, Worthington. The service will be noon Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev.
