FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: David G Submitted: June 2003 ========================================================================= ***This transcribing was done as part of an Eagle Scout Project. by David Gaustad The cemetery itself is in fairly poor shape, but not that bad considering how long it has been around. Some of the stones (3 or more) have been either vandalized or just crumbled over time, and their tops have broken off. The land is very uneven and there are many holes, etc. in the ground. The pattern of the burials is rather irregular, likely because some bodies were exhumed and reburied in a cemetery closer to town (Eyota, MN). Some historical information presents a story that vandals had indeed broken into the cemetery and a grave may have even been dug up. The sign by the side of the country road reading "Cline Cemetery" has a few shotgun holes through it. During my project, the sign was replaced and a map of the burial locations in the cemetery was added to the back to help persons in locating where family members might be buried. The extremely tall grass and plants (especially lilies) were cut back to find headstones. This was an important part of the records process. Certainly, the grass won't stay down forever, but a good record was formulated and this was the main goal of my project. Some of the headstones are becoming a bit difficult to read, but mostly they are in fair-poor condition. In doing some more research into the history of the cemetery, I found that the land was owned by Jeptha Cline who is buried in the cemetery with his wife and other family members. The land where his farm stood during the late 1800's is believed to be on the opposite side of the road. All of the information about the names and dates was given to the Olmsted County Historical Society in hopes of assisting persons doing genealogical research.
