Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Kevin Allen (See Bio of John Hyslop under Bios) Obituary of John Hyslop. The following obituary appeared in the Rochester Post on March 26, 1897: Mr. John Hyslop, a successful and well to do farmer of this county, residing east of Chester a half mile, died this morning at five o'clock from pneumonia. He contacted a cold about two weeks ago while riding to his home from this city and has since been ill. Mr. Hyslop was born in Scotland sixty-seven years ago and moved to America, taking up his residence in this county nearly forty years ago. He has been very prominent since his residence here, and as an evidence of his popularity and worth was sent to the state capital as representative in 1874, where he proved himself worthy of the confidence and esteem of his friends. He has long been a member of the Presbyterian church and has always led an exemplary life. He leaves a wife and goodly family of children. The children are Mr. Robert Hyslop, of Slayton, clerk of court of Murray county; Mrs. Mary McKitterick, of Burlington, Iowa; Mr. John Hyslop Jr., Mrs. Emma Erickson, of Fulda and Lucy Hyslop, who lives at home. No definite arrangements have yet been made for the funeral, but it will probably be held Monday afternoon at one o'clock.
