KETCHUM PASSES AWAY AT HIS POST OF DUTY. Probart B. Ketchum was found dead at 8:45 a.m. today, in the crossing signal tower a mile west of the city. His mother, Mrs. E. L. Ketchum, was the first to discover the helpless form. Her son accepted the position of night man in the tower about three weeks ago, and it has been the habit of Mrs. Kethum to accompany him, to drive him to his station in the evening and to go out in the morning and ride home with him. Following this custom, she ascended the stairs outside the tower. She tried the door but it was locked, and looking through the window she saw her son lying inside apparently asleep. She waited until the arrival of Samuel Welch, the day signal man. He broke in the door and-threw the levers in time to allow the morning Great Western to pass. Meantime Mrs. Ketchum hurried to "Bart's" side. He was reclining on some blankets where he had evidently laid himself down when he felt the sudden attack of illness coming on him. The body was still warm. Mr. Welch at once summoned Dr. Murray by telephone, and later the coroner, Dr. F. R. Mosse. Death was found to be due to hemorrhage of the brain. The remains were conveyed to the home on North Broadway. Probart B. Ketchum was born in Rochester 28 years ago in the house in which he has always lived except for a few years when the family were in Minneapolis. He was a sterling young man, an energetic Christian worker, and a dutiful son. He was connected with the Sunnyside club, being corresponding secretary of the organization. He was also a member of the Baptist Barraca society. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the house, Rev. Gamble officiating. The lonely mother has the sympathy of all her friends in this sad hour."
