FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: The Rawles Family Submitted: May 2002 ========================================================================= Bio of Hans Larsen HVESSER HVESSE VESSER Hans Larsen Vesser was born Oct 31, 1824 in Baadstad area of Trøgstad Parish,Ostfold, Norway on Hvesser farm, (farm #247a) On August 16, 1850 he married Anne Gundersdatter Fløtten born December 28, 1824 on Fløtten Farm in Trøgstad. They were both confirmed at age 15 by Pastor Hendrik in 1839 in Trøgstad Kjerke (church). Their children born in Norway were: Johanna 4/14/1851 (aka Jenny Vesser Grimsrud) Theodor 9/11/53 may possibly been mentally ill or retarded Mattie 1855 Helen 4/24/58 Gusta 5/17/60 Allete 4/8/1864 Caroline 5/26/1866 twins Ole and Anton 12/2/1868 On the 1865 census of Norway the family owned the farm and 1 horse, 6 cattle, 3 sheep, and 1 pig. They produced on the farm for the year one measure of barley, 8 measures of oats, 6 measures of potatoes, a quarter measure of peas, and three quarters measure of rye. They left Norway May 9, 1870. They arrived in in Fairbault, Minn. July 8, 1870. One of the twins, Anton died there the next day. Their last child Lenora Andria was born in America 2/5/1872. On the 1880 Census they were living in Minnesota, Ottertail Co. in the Dane Prairie Township. On the census Hans Larsen is listed as 55 years old, Anne as 55, Theodor as 26, Gusta Maria as 20, Alette as 17, Caroline as 14, Ole as 11, Lenora as 7. Their last name is given as HVESSE. (Johanna, Mattie, and Helen the three oldest daughters were not listed in the household.) Hans Larsen Vesser was well versed in the Scriptures and was called upon by his neighbors to preach and perform funerals. When their eldest daughter Johanna died at age 30, they were given her newborn daughter Jenny to raise. They were both 57 years old. When they died (sometime before 1906) only son Ole and granddaughter Jenny were still at home. Ole (a.k.a.
