Aug 16,1906 (Pelican Rapids...Ottertail CO.) D. Oct 25,1971 Fargo, ND ------ Helmer Dahl, Formerly of Pelican, Dies Son of Early Pioneers Died at Duluth Helmer Dahl, a former resident of Pelican, died at Duluth, Monday, March 5, at 8 AM. He had been hospitalized since Dec. 30. He was born in Norway, Jan. 22, 1880, the only child of Christian C. and Hannah Dahl. They came to America when he was a small child, and moved to Pelican the day before the railroad came in. His father helped organize the First Lutheran Church in town where Helmer was later confirmed by the Rev. Meland. Rev. Meland made his home with them for a time when he first came to Pelican. Helmer also attended public school in town, and taught rural schools in Otter Tail County for about thirty years. He was married to Marie Olson August 16, 1906, with the Rev. Meland officiating. They would thus have celebrated their golden wedding this summer. Three children were born to this union. Harold, who died in infancy; Wenonah, who passed away seven years ago, and Walter, who lives in Fargo. He is also survived by his wife and three grandchildren. Magnus Dahl of Pelican, Carl Dahl of Park Rapids, Harold Dahl of Fergus and Alma Vaglo who lives in California are cousins. The Dahls made their home in Pelican until 1929 when they moved to Duluth, where they have since resided. He worked at the steel plant as long as his health would permit, and since, on account of poor health, has held various other jobs. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but will be announced later.
