LONE SCOUTS OF AMERICA ..."Yet for every boy there is a place for the asking in the Lone Scout organization. The Lone Scout does the regular farm work with amore cheerful spirit and the time flies. After chores and meals, come two or three hours of real fun with correspondence, your favorite hobby, writing articles, reading tribe papers, every spare moment is crammed with activity." In summers while plowing an observation of nature arouond him gets medals, titles, and badges, the envy of every scout, to him free. is it worth it? Many times YES! He learns to see the beauty where before he only saw the ugliness. His eyes are opened, life ha a new thrill for him. It fills him with amition, self-knowledge, and self-reliance. Same issue of "The Farmer," p. 14: "Our Experience Corner, Made $11 on Chickens, TO THE FARMER: I raised Barred Rock chickens, being the ones that appealed to me. But I did not raise so very many owing to the wet and cold spring. In spite of all my bad luck I made $11. I put $5 in the bank which left $6. Then I bought a pair of shoes which cost me $4, and kept $1 for spending money. I hope to go better this year---Leonard W. Downing, Pine County, Minn." Same issue of "The Farmer," p. 5. "His Chickens Beat His Cows--Nels Swendsen Finds Poultry Best Paying Investment on His Farm," by Don P. Shannon: A Pine County, Minn. farmer who has converted his poultry business from an unimportant side-line to one of the best paying lines on his farm is Nels Swendsen. His flock of 325 White Leghorn hens brought an average income of almost $100 per month during the past year. Of this amount, more than half was profit above feed cost, in spite of the fact that the Swendsens buy all the feed for their poultry. "I used to take no special care of my poultry," says Mr. Swendsen. "I just threw them a little oats occasionally, and expected them to rustle their living around the manure pile and barnyard during a great part of the year. Then when the prices for potatoes went down and the hard times came, I saw that I would have to do something if I were going to stay on the farm. I had talked to some of my neighbors who claimed that their poultry was making them money. Two years ago, I started to feed my flock better, and I found that it paid well..." ************************** From "Hinckley News": "Class of 1928 Holds 50th Reunion" Classmates met and memories wee recalled at a gala reunion of the Class of 1928 of Hinckley High School Mr. L.W. Brown, their Superintendent Mrs. Brown of Starbuck Mr. and Mrs. Felix Kaplan of Aitkin were honored guests Mrs. Kaplan (Miss Aerke) was the Principal, English Department Head in 1928 Mr. Kaplan taught Science, Agriculture and coached athletics at that time Former eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Leppink(Grace Toering)of Buffalo, Wyoming Attending the reunion from out-of-state: Mrs. Van (Ivene Curryer) of San Fernando, California Mrs. Opal Murray (Opal Saxton) of Helena, Montana Also present were Minnesotans: Mrs. Remick (Angela Zimbrick) of Rochester, Oscar Schott of Edina Mrs. Unger (Lorna Wolter) of Rush Lake Mrs. Alstrand (Kathryn Kaltenhouser) of Lindstrom Hinckleyites who attended and were members of the class were: Mrs. Ralph Sikkink (Marion Jaquis) Mrs. Curt Sanford (Margaret Currie) Rudolph Johnson Edna Schaefer. Four members of this class were unable to attend: Mrs. Buchl (Alice Ziegler) of Bradenton, Florida Cloyd Brown of Downing, California Mrs. Lynn (Muriel Robertson) of California Mrs. Greely (Nellie Nicholas) of Troy, Illinois. Thirty-four persons including Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nelson, Alice Lundgren, some members of the Class of 1929 and spouses and family of class members of 1928 enjoyed the beautiful buffet at Tobie's Little Kettle. It will be an evening long remembered." ************************
