OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY Thomas Rice died at the home of his son, Alfred, a mile south of town last Saturday at noon. Although Mr. Rice was suffering from the growing infirmities of age, death came as a great shock to relatives and hosts of friend throughout this vicinity;. During the forenoon he had been out of his room several times showing usual health and strength. In fact, he had been but through the kitchen half an hour before Mrs. Rice went to call him to dinner and found him lying on the bed asn though he had sat down and merely toppled over. Rice was born in New York in 1827, came to Oshkosh, Wis., when about ten years of age and in 1847 moved to a farm on the Wisconsin side near the mouth of the Snake River, where he conducted "Rice's Ferry" for a decade, coming thence to this place where has since resided. The funeral was held at the ME church at 2 pm., Monday. Rev Ferguson conducting the services. Mr. Rice was married to a Miss Jenkins at Oshkosh. WIs., in 1852. Her death occurred five years ago. A grown family survive them, of whom Chas. resides in Wash, Alfred and Will at this place, Ezra at Grantsburg, Mrs. P.H. O'brien at Minneapolis and Mrs. Morrison at Atkins. All were present at the funeral except Chas. and Mrs. Morrison. Mrs. W.R. Buttrick of Hinnkley {sp.?] was also present.
