H. Spicer, one of the pioneer residents of the township of Pine Lake, passed away at her home there Friday, Dec. 28th, after a lingering illness. Arina P. Davis was born at Davenport, Iowa, March 11, 1856. At an early age she moved with her parents to Mazeppa, this state. There she grew to womanhood and in 1872 she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Spicer. To this union eleven children were born, three of them having preceded her to the Great Beyond. Besides her children she is survived by 43 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Spicer moved to their Pine Lake home five miles west of Finlayson in 1902 and have lived their since that time. She has been in poor health for several years on account of a weak heart, and a year ago she fell and broke a limb and has since never been able to walk. In spite of her infirmities, she was always in good spirits and was held in high respect by all who knew her. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the M. E. church in Finlayson on the 56th anniversary of her marriage. Those left to mourn her passing are the husband and eight children (one son, Morton, having preceded his mother in death.) They are Mrs. Joe Spicer, Mrs. Geo. Heil, Wm. Spicer, Jr., Claude Spicer, Lanklyn Spicer, Mrs. Roy Peterson, Mrs. Valerie Sheldon and Mrs. Chas. Ballor. Attending the funeral from away were; Mrs. Joe Spicer of Manistique, Mich., Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Heil of Thielman, Minn., Wm. Spicer of Faribault, Claude Spicer of Clearwater, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Peterson and family of Brainerd, Lloyd of Sandstone, Lanklyn and family of Sandstone and the family of Morton Spicer, who live at Sandstone. Mrs. Sheldon of Conrad, Montana, was unable to attend. Mrs. Spicer leaves a host of friends and acquaintances who extend their sympathy to the sorrowing family. ========================================================================= Copyright Julie Milan 2005.
