Family research
John Christian Arp was born on June 13, 1896 at Oneida, Tama County, Iowa 
between Dysart and Clutier, to Herman John Arp and Anna Katharina Krutzfeldt 
Arp. 

His parents moved their family to Rock County, Minnesota, west of Hardwick, MN 
and can be found in the 1900 census there. John attended school at Rock 
township. In 1905 and 1910, John is found at Elmer, Pipestone, MN living with 
his parents and siblings, they had moved to a different farm. 

On September 3, 1919, he married Anna Amanda Rath at Luverne, Rock, MN. They 
settled on a farm in Elmer township, Pipestone, MN near Trosky and are found  
there in the 1920 and 1930 censuses.  

John retired in 1964 and the couple moved to a home in Pipestone. He became 
ill and had been hospitalized since June 23rd, 1976. 

John Christian Arp died Thursday, July 8, 1976 at the Pipestone County 
Hospital. He was 80 years old. Funeral services were July 12th at the St. Paul 
Lutheran Church, Pipestone, Minnesota. The Rev. Charles Boeder officiated. 
Pallbearers were: Allen Staeffler, Curtis Arp, Daniel Arp, Dean Arp, Michael 
Arp, and Dennis Arp. Interment was in the Trosky cemetery at Trosky, 
Pipestone, MN.  

John and Anna Arp had four children: 
Phyllis (born 1920 Pipestone, MN); 
Lois (born October 7, 1922 Pipestone, MN, died before 2008); 
Lorraine June (born June 17, 1925 Pipestone, MN, married Kenneth Staeffler 
January 30, 1947 Lake Benton, died December 28, 2008 Pipestone, MN); and 
Myron Marion Arp (born 1928 Elmer, Pipestone, MN). 

John Christian Arp had two sisters: 
Laura Margarethe (born March 10, 1898 Tama, IA, married Theodore Hans Oye 
September 5, 1916 Pipestone, MN, died March 13, 1986 Pipestone, MN). and

Louise Caroline (born April 5, 1904 Pipestone, MN, married Frank Frederick 
Brockberg December 6, 1922 Pipestone, MN, died October 10, 1994 Pipestone, MN).
