Obituary

Thursday, January 14, 1999:

Lavonne Stavenger

Pipestone, Minn. - Lavonne "Casey" Stavenger, 74, died Monday, Jan. 11, 

1999, at Pipestone County Medical Center.

Lavonne Jones was born on Dec. 5, 1924, in Pipestone, where she was raised 

and attended school.  She graduated from Pipestone high School in 1942.  She 

attended nurse's training in Minneapolis for two years.  She returned to 

Pipestone and worked at Ashton Memorial Hospital.

She married Clarence Stavenger on June 24, 1946, in Pipestone.  They resided 

in Pipestone where they owned and operated the Eagle Cafe.  They moved to 

Luverne, Minn., for one year and then returned to Pipestone.  In the 1960's, 

she returned to nursing and worked for Dr. Boyd and Dr. Dahlquist for 

several years.  She and her husband spent 18 winters in Mesa, Ariz., at Val 

Vista Village.  Her husband died on Nov. 5, 1997.  She became a resident of 

Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone on Aug. 1, 1998.

She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Survivors include four children; Dave of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Tom of Ann 

Arbor, Mich., Jim of Denver and Mary Zeinstra of Boulder, Colo.; and 11 

grandchildren.

Services begin at 2 P.M. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 

Pipestone, with burial at New Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone.

Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 P.M. today at Hartquist Funeral Chapel, 

Pipestone, with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M.

Lavonne was the first baby born in the Pipestone County Hospital.
