Alexander, Early Pioneer of County, Dies at 75 Funeral held Tuesday afternoon at Presbyterian Church here A member of the Pioneer Redwood Coney family, Mrs. Katherine Alexander, 75, died at her home on West Fourth Street in Redwood Falls Sunday morning following a today illness from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Odlaug funeral parlor Hall and the Presbyterian Church Tuesday afternoon and burial was in the Redwood Falls cemetery the grave of her husband, David Alexander, who died February 26th, 1918. Rev J. P. Linn, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, was in charge of services. Five surviving sons, George of Redwood Falls, D. O. Alexander and Glen and William of Vesta N. Charles of Jackson, and one son in law, William Sickman, acted as pallbearers. Catherine Johnson was born in 1858 on a farm in Ontario, Canada where she spent her early childhood. When 11 years old, with other members of her family and her parents, she came to Redwood County and settled on a farm near where Seaforth is located. She told many interesting stories about Redwood County which was then barron villages uncultivated land. She was married October 15th, 18782 David Alexander at the farm home of her father. Like the Johnson family, Mr. Alexander's parents came from Canada at an early date to and settled in the Vesta community. They lived on a farm near Vesta until 1901 when the family moved to Redwood Falls where Mrs. Alexander has since lived. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Whittet of Redwood Falls and Mrs. William Sickman of, and five sons. One daughter Cora, died at the age of seven years. Soon after the family moved to Redwood Falls, Mrs. Alexander joined the Presbyterian Church of which she was in earnest member until recent years when her health failed. She was a member of the Delhi Presbyterian Church before she moved here. Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barnum, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson and son and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barnum, all of Mankato; Mrs. Sarah Paulson, Kasota; Mrs. John Longbottom and daughter of Fergus Falls and Mrs. Jenny Johnson of Seaforth. ========================================================================= Copyright Gary Revier 2007.
